FAQs
Gentle Reminder: All questions are valid!

Yes, studies have shown that therapy works! Talk therapy, art therapy, play therapy, etc. have been studied extensively and researchers have shown that it can be offered as treatment for several mental health concerns. Regular therapy sessions with a trained and trusted professional can help one uncover strengths and learn new skills, so one can deal with daily and chronic stressors in a more effective way.
-
Absolutely! Therapy sessions with any trained mental health professional are confidential because your safety is important. Anything you discuss in therapy stays in therapy, unless you are a threat to yourself or others, someone is threatening you or the therapist has been legally asked to break confidentiality.
-
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. For therapy to work as desired, the sessions should ideally have some regularity and both parties must be equally invested in the therapeutic process.
Most studies show that the best interval between sessions is one week, and sessions are less frequent towards the end of therapy. However, if you feel that you don’t need to have sessions once a week, they can be extended for up to once every two weeks. Follow-up or booster sessions can happen once every 3-4 months, on a need-basis, even after the termination of therapy.
-
Excellent question! The therapist-client match is essential for therapy to be effective. Here are some important questions you can ask yourself between therapy sessions:
Do I feel validated/ comfortable/ heard/ respected by my therapist?
Does the therapist specialize or have experience in the concerns I have?
Am I making progress and how do I know if I am?
Does the therapist ask me for my feedback?
Does the therapist provide me with resources?
In case the answer to these questions is no, or if you're doubtful about your therapist, it may be a good idea to discuss it in therapy.

In India, for a formal diagnosis, you will need either a psychiatrist or a certified psychologist with psychometric tests to make a formal diagnosis. While I don’t specialize in testing, I can and will refer you to a testing center as and when I see fit through the duration of therapy, or upon request by you.
-
No. I’m a mental health therapist, a psychologist, who has studied how the mind works but not much about the brain anatomy or chemistry. For someone to prescribe you medications, they have to be MBBS, and MD in Psychiatry or Diploma in Psychiatric medicine.

-
Yes! I understand that we often get caught up in life and it can be difficult to keep up with the usual 9-5! If you’re unable to book a slot with me due to the 24-hour cut-off or unavailability of a desired slot, send me an email and we can come up with a time that’s convenient for both of us.
-
Yes, but only on need basis. I regularly update my pro bono and sliding scale appointment schedules as required. However, please be aware that there are people who absolutely cannot afford therapy in any way, and these slots are reserved for those who are unable to pay my full fees. At any point of time, if you are taking sliding scale or pro bono services and you feel that you can pay for a session or two, please do that so I can give these slots to someone in need.
In an ideal world, mental health would be covered by insurance and no one should have to pay for mental or physical well being, but we are far from it! So I request you to pay the full fees if you are able to afford it.
-
At the moment, due to logistical issues, I have not started seeing clients in person. However, if that is something that you’re looking for, send me an email and I’ll get back to you once I start my offline sessions.

Finding the right therapist can be a difficult task and it is unfair that when we go “shopping” for a therapist, we need to spend money before we can decide if we want to pick the item. I understand this concern, I’ve been there too!
To help you navigate through this dilemma, I provide a free 15-minute consultation so I can understand more about you and your concerns, and so that you can know me better and understand how I am as a therapist.
If we click, then we go ahead with therapy. If not, you can always tell me and I can refer you to another therapist.
